Exercise Groups for Moms Bringing Little Ones in San Luis Obispo area

January 6, 2019
Stroller Strides
As of August 2022, Stroller Strides website for San Luis Obispo county has been showing errors: https://slocounty.fit4mom.com (redirects to a generic page now). They must have cancelled the local chapter for SLO County.

More about Stroller Strides: Stroller Strides is a great exercise group for moms who bring their kids in their strollers with them while they work out! After the work out, the kids can have some playground fun as all of the work outs are done at parks with playgrounds. When they have activated the local chapter again, information will be updated on this page.

Stroller Fit Club
Located in Paso Robles, Stroller Fit Club is a program for moms with little ones and can work out with the stroller with kids ages 6 months - 4 years old. Classes take place at a park in Paso Robles and is run by Paso Robles Sports Club. You can visit the Paso Robles Sports Club to learn more about the Stroller Fit Club by going on their website: https://prsc.caclubs.com/fitness/moms-fitness-series or calling them.

Parent Participation Fitness Classes
There are a couple of classes from the Parent Participation group that you can join where you hike for a few miles with other moms who will be carrying their little ones or join a walking group with your little ones in a stroller. Both are recommended for infants 6 weeks and up. If they are available for enrollment, the classes would be listed under programs currently offered by Parent Participation on this link: https://slcusd.asapconnected.com/#CourseGroupID=23145

MOPS Mom Groups in San Luis Obispo County

January 5, 2019
When I moved here as a mother of 2 preschoolers, I had been recommended by many people to join MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), a mom group for women with children from birth to five years old. I had joined one on the East Coast.

In San Luis Obispo County, there are currently a few MOPS locations.

The most active one in San Luis Obispo is run by Grace Central Coast. They seem to have a MOPS group and their own church group for moms. Here is their current website: https://gracecentralcoast.churchcenter.com/groups/women-s-ministry/love-from-mom

The other two MOPS groups that are run by Grace Central Coast are in Paso Robles and Arroyo Grande. Here is their main website: https://gracecentralcoast.org/mops. Moreover, there are online MOPS options that are open to everyone nationally. They also have many Special Needs Programs and expand beyond preschoolers too when using the online search for virtual meetings.

There's usually a nominal fee to be part of MOPS per semester and they are at different prices, depending on the chapter.

At any time and from any location in the US, you can use the https://www.mops.org/groupsearch/ Group Search tool to find the right one for you.

We even went to a Pokemon Party at the Arroyo Grande Library and Morro Bay Library and the kids met other Pokemon collectors from all over the county. I've even met a few families from Santa Barbara County!  My kids really enjoyed trading Pokemon cards with other kids. You can read about our Pokemon Party experience at Arroyo Grande from our Day 5 of our Spring Break blog entry that I logged every day of Spring Break in San Luis Obispo County!

Buying a Foreclosed Home Has a Longer Closing Period

July 22, 2014
Many home buyers are looking for foreclosed homes with the hopes that they'll steal a deal and feel good about it. Unfortunately, it typically takes longer to close a deal if it's a foreclosed (bank-owned) home. If you are not limited on time and don't mind the risk of having to put in a lot of money to fix your home in the short run, a foreclosed home may be a good fit for you.

For those who are first time home owners and aren't good at fixing and construction, I don't recommend you looking into a foreclosed home, unless you have the capital to hire professional help. More times than not, they are really run down and you can't obtain any information from the previous owners because this home now belongs to the bank. They are not liable to providing any history to you. You basically buy at your own risk.

If you are set on getting a foreclosed home, get ready for a 2-3 month closing period after you've submitted an offer. Sometimes it could take longer than that before you can get the keys and move in.

Get an appraisal done by your bank before scheduling your home and termite inspections

December 18, 2013

After you have put in your buying offer and the seller has accepted it, it's time to start calling the bank that gave you that pre-approved loan letter to start getting the motions into place.

The bank will not loan you the money if the appraised price of the home you want to buy is not below the amount of the loan or at most, equivalent to it. It can't be overpriced. Otherwise, you'll have to figure out a way to put down more money to offset the difference. You don't want to be overpaying for a house anyway so getting an appraisal done first is a good way to know that. If the appraisal is good, you will know that you can call your home inspection and termite inspection companies next. You don't want to waste money on these inspections if the bank is not going to approve the loan for that particular house. A home inspection can cost anywhere between $350 - 450 and a termite inspection can be between $100 - $150 for this part of town. So remember to call your bank right away after the offer contract has been accepted.

And remember, if there is not a written contract and signatures from both sides, there is no binding contract in the real estate world. A verbal agreement to accept the offer is not enough in the court of law.
